Momo is often mistaken for a playgirl, because of her dark skin and bleached hair. She is however not a playgirl. She has a dark skin and bleached hair, because she used to be on the swimming team. Like most girls of her age, Momo has a crush on a boy. His name is Touji and he is in the same class as her. Momo has known him since junior high. Momo also has a classmate who has a habit of copying or stealing al the things/ persons Momo likes. Her name is Sae and she claims to be Momo’s friend. Momo knows about Sae’s habit, so when Sae asked her if she has someone she likes, Momo pointed at a guy who happened to be near her. What she didn’t know is that the guy she pointed at actually likes her. The guy’s name is Kairi and is quite popular with the girls in school. He spread the rumour that he and Momo kissed. When she asked him about it, he asked her if she remembered a boy she saved from drowning at the beach two years ago. Kairi said that he had stopped breathing and that Momo saved him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Momo said it wasn’t her that saved him, but a male lifeguard. Momo didn’t know what to do, because she was afraid Touji might have heard the rumour as well. Kairi told her that all they had to do is to make the rumour true, then he kissed Momo. Momo was shocked, but managed to kick Kairi away when he wanted to kiss her again.
Later on Kairi asked Momo if she likes Touji. After she said she likes Touji, he asked her why she doesn’t confess to hem. Momo said it’s because a friend told her that Touji doesn’t like dark-skinned girls. Touji and Sae happened to be nearby and overheard Momo and Kairi’s conversation. Sae can see Touji was blushing after he heard that Momo likes him. When school was out, Sae lured Kairi and Momo to the poolside. Kairi got there first and wondered why Momo hasn’t show up yet. He took out a picture from his pocket and wanted to tear it apart, but then the wind blew the picture into the pool. He wanted to pick up the picture, but slipped and fell into the pool. When Momo arrived at the poolside, she saw Kairi floating in the water. She pulled him out of the pool and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Meanwhile Sae and Touji arrived as well. Sae thought Momo was kissing Kairi, but Touji felt something was wrong. He called for Momo who told him to call for an ambulance. Then Kairi started spitting out water he inhaled. After taking Kairi to the nurse’s office, Touji and Momo went for a walk. Touji told Momo he overheard her conversation with Kairi. Momo panicked, but then Touji tells her he doesn’t hate dark-skinned girls and that he likes Momo too.
I had doubts about this series, because the artwork doesn’t appeal to me and the plot seemed somewhat cliché. It turns out I was right about the artwork and the plot. Peach Girl is filled with cliché moments, but it’s nonetheless enjoyable and quite addictive. Sae is such a bitch. She claims to be Momo’s friend, but she does such nasty things behind her back. Momo is quite stupid for believing the things Sae said. She still hasn’t realised that Sae can’t be trusted. Btw, is it just me or is Kairi quite adorable?
