Continuing from the previous episode is the match between St. Pierre’s Mokoyama and Pantasia’s Kazuma. It starts off with a short introduction of the judges and the points that can be given. The maximum score is 10. Mokoyama’s bread is tasted first. It’s round bread called: Kouign amann. The judges were very pleased about it. It’s extremely sweet on the outside, but it is neutralised with the sugarless custard pudding on the inside. The judges gave Mokoyama’s Kouign amann a perfect score (3 x 10 points). Next was Kazuma’s bread. His bread looked the same on the surface, but the shape of each bread was different. Apparently Kazuma made Kabukiage, a deep-fried, round rice cake.
The judges were impressed with Kazuma’s skills. Kazuma explains his bread is made of leftovers of the southern Tokyo Pantasia store. He put the leftovers in a special sauce and fried them. Mokoyama points out that Kazuma’s bread couldn’t be sold to customers since they are made out of leftovers. Selling leftovers would be disrespectful towards the customers. The judges agree that Mokoyama pointed out a valid point and that they have to take that into consideration in Kazuma’s score. Kazuma thinks it’s not fair. He made the bread out of Ken, Kawachi and Tsukino’s leftover bread, because he didn’t want to waste delicious bread. Before the judges could give Kazuma his score, Meister Kirisaki appeared and wanted to ask something before announcing the score: the price of both creations. Mokoyama was the first one to answer, he thought he could outsmart Pantasia by announcing a lower price than he initially wanted to ask: ¥190 instead of ¥260. Everyone was surprised after hearing the price, because ¥190 is relatively cheap (a regular Kouign amann costs ¥150-¥160). Then it’s Kazuma’s turn to announce the price of his creation. To everyone’s surprise Kazuma announced that the price for his creation is ¥0, because it’s made out of leftovers. Ken looked at Meister Kirisaki and understands that he needs to take care of the rest. Ken announces that Kazuma’s creation will be in the southern Tokyo Pantasia store starting tomorrow. The audience seems to be pleased. The women are attracted by Ken’s masculinity and the boys/ men by Tsukino’s cuteness. The match ended in a draw. Kazuma and Mokoyama both got a perfect score.
What can I say, this episode was great! Too bad the expressions of the judges were a bit disappointing. Ken sure knows how to make free publicity for his store. I laughed out loud when he said to Tsukino: “Show more appeal. Give them a pose, and make it sexy, sexy!”. And poor Kawachi, no one seems to want his flavour bread. Meister Kirisaki looks more like a magician than a bread artisan to me. Each time he makes an entrance doves fly around. Where does he hides them? I also think he wears a strange outfit. As expected, Mokoyama is a sore loser. He doesn’t want St. Pierre’s owner to find out about the outcome of this match and orders his subordinates to keep their mouth shuts, or he will make them his lovers – that’s such a nasty punishment.
