Umata-sensei invited his pupils Kantarou and Hasumi to investigate the strange things that have been happening on Yome Island (also known as “Man-eating Island”). Every human that has ever set foot on Yome Island came back as a skeleton. Kantarou believes that perhaps youkai had something to do with it, but unlike Kantarou Hasumi doesn’t believe in the existence of youkai.
The next day they went to Yome Island. Everywhere on the island there were statues of sleeping cats, but Kantarou and Hasumi didn’t know what the statues are for. Then Sabu, one of the men who came along with them, got eaten. Kantarou discovered mice are the real culprits behind all this. He and Haruka went to a cave and discovered a giant mouse that has been possessed by an evil spirit. They managed to defeat it, but then they were almost drowned by a huge amount of water that came flooding into the cave. Hasumi discovered that the sleeping cat statues are actually a mechanism the ancestors built in case of emergencies. He activated it and caused for the flooding in the cave.
Another demon-of-the-week episode and a pretty boring one too. Hasumi is annoying and pretty dumb for a scholar. He actually thought Muu-chan is a toy and that Sugino is a foreigner. Give me a break, a foreigner who has wings?! Even if he doesn’t believe in youkai, he didn’t have to come up with such lame excuses.
