Ichigo wanted to fight with Ishida, but got interrupted by some Hollows. Ishida told him he wants to show his powers as a Quincy to Ichigo. Rukia explained to Ichigo that Quincy’s were exterminated by Death gods 200 years ago. They had to exterminate them in order to prevent the collapse of the world. Death gods are regulators of the balance of souls. Quincy’s completely destroyed Hollows and therefore disturbed the balance, because the souls sent to the human world won’t come back to Soul Society.
Ichigo rushed to Ishida and wanted to explain things to him. Ishida told Ichigo he didn't care about what happened between the Death gods and Quincy’s, because that's ancient history. He actually thinks the Death gods are right until his Sensei died in front of his own eyes. His Sensei was the last of the Quincy’s. He was under strict observation of the Death Gods, but his Sensei didn’t mind at all. He wanted to fight alongside the Death gods, but they refused to listen to him. One day five Hollows appeared and attacked his Sensei. The Death gods who were supposed to observe his Sensei arrived two hours after his Sensei fought the Hollows. By the time they arrived his Sensei already died. After hearing this Ichigo yelled at Ishida, because he thinks Ishida misunderstood his Sensei’s wish. His Sensei’s wish is not for Ishida to prove Quincy’s powers, but to fight alongside the Death Gods.
The two of them started to fight the Hollows. Suddenly the sky cracked open and a gigantic Hollow appeared. Urahara and his helpers showed up as well. He said they will take care of the other Hollows and that Ichigo should focus on fighting the gigantic Hollow: Menos Grande. According to Rukia, Menos Grande is a gigantic Hollow said to be born when hundreds of Hollows pile atop each other and intermingle. Ishida wanted to think of a plan to defeat Menos Grande, but Ichigo didn’t listen to him and started to fight Menos Grande on his own. Unfortunately he was no match for him. Ishida then accidentally touched Ichigo’s soul cutter and felt Ichigo’s powers flowing into him. He came up with a plan to defeat Menos Grande. He tied Ichigo’s soul cutter to his head, because he wanted to use Ichigo’s powers to increase his own in order to shoot off an arrow powerful enough to destroy Menos Grande. At the same time Menos Grande was about to fire a Cero at them. Ichigo grabbed his soul cutter from Ishida’s head, blocked the attack from Menos Grande and even managed to counterattack him. Menos Grande retreated after being hit by Ichigo’s counterattack. After Menos Grande left, Ichigo collapsed. Then suddenly his soul cutter started to change form. Apparently Ichigo can’t control the suddenly release of his powers. Ishida helped Ichigo by tapping into Ichigo’s powers and use his arrows to shoot away Ichigo’s surplus powers. In the end Ishida finally understand his Sensei; he actually wanted Ishida to save him. Ishida hoped that by helping Ichigo his Sensei can forgive him (his Sensei is actually his Grandfather).
This episode was great. The humour and action are well combined. I can’t believe that the serious moments can be funny as well. Ishida and Ichigo make a great team and they are funny too. I think Ishida is starting to like Ichigo (as a friend). He acknowledges Ichigo’s powers and cares for him in his own way, otherwise he wouldn’t have saved him. Bleach is getting better by the episode!
