Yumeyako, a childhood-friend of Kantarou’s, asked for his help. She is a professional entertainer/ dancer who gets paid for entertaining people. A masked man named Aoyagi Shinzaburou hired Yumeyako to dance for him. He is a very famous doll-maker, who makes dolls that look like real human beings.
The last time Yumeyako danced for him she felt a strange presence of someone/ something looking at her. She asks Kantarou and his friends to accompany her to the mansion of Aoyagi Shinzaburou. After they entered the mansion they discovered a hallway full of dolls. One doll was dressed exactly the same as Yumeyako. The doll’s name is Yae and is Aoyagi’s masterpiece.
Aoyagi didn’t want to waste time and asks Yumeyako to dance for him. During the performance someone sabotaged the stage light and caused it to fall on Yumeyako, luckily Kantarou saved her. Later on they found out that Yae was missing. Aoyagi went looking for her and feared for the worse. Yae kidnapped Yumeyako and took her to the basement. According to Kantarou, Yae is jealous of Yumeyako and therefore turned into a demon. She couldn’t stand the way Aoyagi Shinzubarou looked at Yumeyako during her performances. Haruka and Kantarou start fighting demon Yae. Kantarou used a chant to bind the demon and vanquish it. Yae returned to normal, but accidentally crashed into a burning lampoon when she fell. The flames started to spread rapidly and soon the whole mansion caught flame. Kantarou and Haruka saved Yumeyako and wanted to leave the mansion together with Aoyagi, but then Yae started to perform for Aoyagi. Aoyagi didn’t want to leave Yae and stayed behind. Then Yae somehow became human. Yae and Aoyagi kissed and died happily in each other’s arms.
At first I really hated this episode. Not because the story is so bad, on the contrary it’s actually quite good. I hated this episode, because of the dolls. I can’t stand dolls and especially dolls that are human-like, they freak me out. That’s also the reason why I don’t watch Rozen Maiden.
Anyway, this episode is quite good. Like always the artwork is done very nicely. At first I thought this episode would definitely fit in the horror genre (freaky mansion, scary dolls that come to life and an obsessed doll-maker), but in the end it turned out to be a sad love story between a doll-maker and his masterpiece. I still don’t understand why Yae became human in the end. Or was it just Aoyagi’s imagination?
