Reiko asked Kantarou to write an article on the unknown disappearances in a village. Kantarou, Haruka, Youko-chan and Suzu-chan went to the village to investigate the case and to visit the hot springs. Kantarou has lived in that village when he was little. He knows the keeper of the temple: Kiyo-sama. She tells Kantarou about the disappearances of the children of the village. It’s like they were “spirited away”. Perhaps it had something to do with the God of the Mountain. The previous God of the Mountain wasn’t satisfied with the offerings the village people gave to him. Because of this he was enraged and destroyed the village. Then one of the villagers had a visit from a spirit that told him to save the village. This villager captured the God of the Mountain and awakened a new God. Later that day Kantarou, Haruka, Youko-chan and Suzu-chan went to the hot springs to take a nice hot bath. At the hot springs Kantarou and Haruka met a strange looking green demon.
The next day Kantarou and Haruka went to talk to a child, Hitoshi-kun. He is the only person who returned from being spirited away. Kantarou felt a strange presence when he talked to Hitoshi-kun. Hitoshi-kun said he couldn’t remember anything when he was spirited away.
Kantarou and Haruka continued their own investigation in the forest. They discovered a Kagome, which is something from a fairy tale. The new God of the Mountain appears to be a White Tengu. White Tengu’s used to be humans, who where too proud of their powers.
Meanwhile Hitoshi has taken Suzu-chan away. He took her to the Kagome, where the other disappeared children are.
Kantarou, Haruka and Youko-chan encountered the White Tengu. It appears that Haruka knows him. The White Tengu’s name is Sugino. Youko-chan thought that he was the culprit behind all the disappearances and demanded him to release all the children. The real culprit then appears. It turns out that it’s the Dragon God, the previous Mountain God. He wanted revenge and used the children’s spirits to gain power. Haruka started fighting the Dragon God and began to act strangely and out of control again. Kantarou didn’t want Haruka to kill the Dragon God and used his powers to seal the Dragon God away. By sealing the Dragon God all the disappeared children including Suzu-chan were released. Hitoshi-kun was being used by the Dragon God, but now the Dragon God has been sealed away Hitoshi-kun returned to normal again.
By the way: the strange looking green demon is called Muu-chan. Muu-chan and Sugino are a married couple. She insisted to go to Kantarou’s house, much to the annoyance of Sugino.
Wasn’t really a spectacular episode. The nursery rhyme the children sang was annoying and so was the theme during Kantarou’s chants. They should really change it. I agree with Ten that there will be a “Demon of the Week” thing in each episode. I just hope that the next demon will be more interesting. Sugino and Muu-chan form a really strange couple. Muu-chan seems to like Kantarou, which makes Sugino really really jealous. I wonder how they ever got married. Sugino is the handsome White Tengu and Muu-chan is an ugly (but cute) green blob.
I'm anxious to find out why Haruka behaves so strangely.......perhaps it will be revealed in the next episodes? I sure hope so!
