Azuma still doesn’t know what croissant is. Tsukino offers to teach him how to make croissant. Kawachi comes between both and "kidnaps" Azuma. Kawachi wants to team up with Azuma to make the ultimate croissant, because it's the only chance they will have against Suwabara. It turns out that Suwabara is the winner of a first-class bread-making skill competition. The theme of the competition was: croissant. At first Azuma refused, because it's against the rules to work together with another examinee. Kawachi noticed this and made up a sad story to win Azuma over. Azuma was touched by Kawachi's story and agrees to help him. Kawachi teaches Azuma how to make croissant. A standard croissant has 108 layers; Azuma insists that their croissant has to have at least 324 layers. The outer layers of the croissant will get burned, but according to Azuma it's what inside that counts. While Azuma and Kawachi was making croissant, Tsukino came to take a look. Azuma wants to discuss something with her and tells Kawachi to finish the croissant by himself.
The next day only Kawachi and Suwabara were present to have their croissant tasted and judged. Kuroyan didn't feel like tasting Kawachi's croissant, because it's burnt black like a charcoal. Then Tsukino and an elder gentleman entered the room. The elder gentleman is the owner of the Pantasia Group and Tsukino is his granddaughter/ person in charge of Pantasia's southern Tokyo store. Tsukino says that Azuma has withdrawn from the new employee recruitment. Kawachi thinks it's because Azuma has found out that Tsukino is the owner's granddaughter and doesn't want to be exposed for teaming up with Kawachi. Although Kawachi thought he was exposed for cheating, he still wanted to finish the last exam. When Kuroyan was about to taste the croissant of Kawachi, he told him to wait and cracked the croissant open with a spoon. Under the burnt layer was a beautifully baked croissant. Kuroyan was extremely pleased after tasting it and gave Kawachi plus six points. Suwabara wanted to taste the croissant as well; he was in complete shock after tasting it. He knew his croissant can't compete with Kawachi's croissant and decided to give up.
Kawachi is recruited. He wanted to talk to Tsukino and pulled her out the room. Kawachi kind of "threatens" her not to expose him for cheating. He tells her he is not like Azuma; he won't withdraw from the recruitment because he isn't afraid to be exposed for cheating. Tsukino tells Kawachi that Azuma withdrew, because he thought of Kawachi's siblings and not because he was afraid. Kawachi was touched after hearing this and decided to withdraw from the recruitment as well. In the end we see Tsukino talking to her grandfather, she wants to recruit them both for the southern Pantasia store in Tokyo.
It's nice to see Kawachi isn't a bad guy after all. I think he'll become good friends with Azuma. Azuma is naive as always. I think his character won't change, I don't mind though. It's enjoyable to see him like this and he does have great potential to become a first-class baker. I think this is the first time that I like all the characters of an animeserie. Usually the main female character is annoying, this is not the case with Tsukino. She is not annoying and pretty likeable. She is cute and she knows talent when she sees it. Tsukino had her eyes set on Kawachi and Azuma from the beginning.
The themes during the bread-making and bread-tasting are a bit exaggerated, but it fits the serie.
All that bread-making makes me hungry though. I want to taste the "burnt" croissant Kawachi and Azuma made, I think it will taste very very yummy............................^_^
Oh....and I hope Kuroyan stays in the serie, he is funny and his expressions are a huge plus.
