Rukia’s soul was about to be eaten by the Hollow. Chad suddenly appears and punched the Hollow in the face. For a moment there Rukia thought that Chad can see Hollows, but that’s not true. Chad can’t see them; he uses his instincts to feel their presence. The Hollow thought it was a lucky punch of Chad, so he wasn’t afraid him. He was surprised when Chad managed to hit him again and again.
To avoid being hit again; the Hollow flew up in the sky. Chad broke a piece of a telephone pole and hit the Hollow right out of the sky (with a little help of Rukia). The Hollow used small hollows/ leeches to restrict Chad and Rukia’s movements. It had however no effect, because Chad is too strong. The Hollow flew up again. This time Rukia tells Chad to throw her at the Hollow so she can kick his ass. Too bad she wasn’t prepared well enough and got hit by the leeches that the Hollow fired at her. The leeches are actually mini bombs that will explode if the Hollow uses his tongue to produce sound.
The Hollow caught the cockatiel, when Rukia and Chad weren’t looking. He placed a bomb on the birdcage, if Chad moved even an inch the Hollow will set of the bomb and blow up the cockatiel. The Hollow tells Rukia to run (I guess he likes to hunt down his prey), while he attacks her with his leeches. Just when the Hollow thought Rukia has given up, Ichigo appeared and stepped on the Hollow’s head. Ichigo took over and started fighting the Hollow. The Hollow was no match for Ichigo. When Ichigo was about to slay the Hollow, he asks him if he killed the boy’s mother. At the same time the boy started telling his story to Rukia and Chad. The Hollow was a serial killer when he was human. His last kill was the boy’s mother. When he cornered the boy and his mother to the balcony, the boy grabbed his shoelace and caused him to fall of the balcony and to die.
The Hollow wanted revenge and told the boy that he can bring his mother back to life, if he was willing to live as a cockatiel for three months. The Hollow got his revenge by killing everyone who wanted to protect the boy. Ichigo was furious after hearing this and slayed the Hollow. By slaying the Hollow, Ichigo send him to Hell.
In the end the boy can’t become human again. Ichigo comforts him, by telling him he can see his mother again when he went to the other side.
I like this episode. Rukia and Chad are a great team. I think Chad has potential to become a Death God. He is extremely strong and has great instincts. At least Chad does everything Rukia says, unlike Ichigo. I had expected Ichigo to appear a lot sooner in this episode though, but it doesn’t matter. No one got killed and he did manage to save Rukia in time. It was nice to see the soft side of Ichigo, Rukia and Chad --> it was quite a touching moment. There probably won’t be any Chad in the next episodes, which is too bad. I like his character, he’s funny when he’s teamed up with Rukia.
The artwork was kind of disappointing, I didn’t like the colours. The music was okay, nothing special. The ending theme is quite good.
