Rukia went to a place called Urahara Store to buy some peculiar products. The store is run by the manager and his three assistants: Tessai, Ururu and Jinta. Besides a few “usually” things, Rukia also ordered “Gikongan”. It’s a medicine that forcibly removes the soul from the body and injects a fake soul instead. Rukia wants Ichigo to use this medicine in case she’s not around to push his soul out of his body. Rukia tells Ichigo to try the Gikongan. The medicine worked, Ichigo’s soul was separated from his body and a fake soul is injected. Suddenly Rukia’s phone rang, she received orders to take care of a Hollow. Rukia and Ichigo left the fake soul to take care of things. At first he seemed perfectly normal, but then it’s revealed he’s extremely strong and likes to hit on girls.
After slaying the Hollow, Rukia and Ichigo rushed back to school. Ichigo has a bad feeling about the fake soul and it turns out he is right. The fake soul is out of control and refuses to give the body back to Ichigo. He demonstrates his incredible power and that’s when Rukia found out that he is a modified soul. Modified souls are part of the Spearhead plan: to inject a soul specialized in battle into a soul-less body of a dead person. The modified souls were created to be used as anti-Hollow soldiers. The Soul Society rejected the plan, because it was inhuman to make dead bodies to fight. They ordered to destroy all modified souls, but apparently one managed to escape. Meanwhile the modified soul is running happily around town. He likes being noticed by other people. The modified soul met a couple of kids who were playing a videogame. One of the kids was not satisfied with the player he created and decided to delete him and create a new one. The modified soul was furious after hearing this and tried to attack the kids. Ichigo appeared in time to save them.
Wow, pretty amazing episode. I know the modified soul is supposed to be the bad guy, but I can’t help feeling sorry for him. He was created for the convenience of Soul Society and then destroyed for the convenience of Soul Society. All he wants is to have fun and get people to notice him. Ichigo is aware of this as well, I think he will have a hard time fighting this modified soul. BTW, it was funny to see the modified soul hitting on the girls in Ichigo’s class. I think a part of Ichigo is like that as well, he is just afraid to show that part of him. And Rukia’s crappy drawings always make me laugh.
